How to Measure Your Windows
At MZ Covering, accurate measurements are key to ensuring your window coverings fit perfectly and look amazing. Whether you’re installing blinds, shades, shutters, or drapes, following the right steps will make the process simple and stress-free.
Step 1: Decide on Inside or Outside Mount
Before measuring, determine whether your window covering will be mounted inside the window frame or outside on the wall.
Inside Mount: Offers a clean, built-in look. Measures are taken inside the window frame.
Outside Mount: Covers the window frame and may provide better light control. Measures are taken outside the frame.
Step 2: Measure Width
Use a metal tape measure for accuracy.
Measure the width in three places: top, middle, and bottom of the window.
For inside mounts, use the smallest measurement to ensure the covering fits inside the frame.
For outside mounts, measure the desired width of the coverage, usually adding 1–3 inches on each side for better light control.
Step 3: Measure Height
Measure the height in three places: left, middle, and right of the window.
For inside mounts, use the longest measurement to ensure full coverage.
For outside mounts, measure from the top of where you want the covering to start to where you want it to end, adding extra length if needed to cover trims or sills.
Step 4: Check for Obstructions
Look for handles, locks, or other hardware that could interfere with the covering.
Note any obstructions when placing your order so we can provide proper adjustments.
Step 5: Note Your Measurements Clearly
Write down the width and height for each window.
Double-check your measurements to avoid errors.
